Down Wedding Hairstyles For Long Hair
A great idea for wedding hairstyles for long hair down is to use a few small elastics to create a “barely up style”. Splitting the hair into sections and securing it with these can create beautiful shape and movement while still offering length. You could even add a braid. The elastics can then be covered using flowers or pins.

Pre-Wedding Hair Care
Healthy and well-prepared hair is essential for stunning down hairstyles. We consulted with Multi Award Winning Hairstylist Michael Gray for his expert tips on how to achieve this. Here’s his advice:
I think it’s important for a bride to have regular hair cuts before a trial and for their wedding day. Ensuring the hair is looking healthy. I prefer my brides to wash their hair the night before, so the hair isn’t too soft to style. If the hair is soaking wet on the day, it adds more time onto styling the look and makes the hair softer. To maintain a hair look on the day, I would use dark oil shine spray by Sebastian to help control any frizz and Flex hair spray by Living Proof to keep the style in place. Both products are great, not too heavy and brushable at the end of the night. By Michael Gray

Half Up Half Down Wedding Hair
The addition of multiple braids and flowers or greenery can also add to that bohemian vibe. For more classic and elegant looks of long hair half up half down wedding hairstyles create smooth texture and more simple structure with a traditional style of comb or pins for accessories.
Wedding Hair Down With Veil
Wearing your hair down on your wedding day is such a beautiful and relaxed look. However, for these styles I am often asked how a veil can be used if there is nothing for the comb to grab on to. If you’re wearing a wedding hairstyle with a veil, you want to be sure that it is secure and not going to slip or fall out completely. Disaster!
The trick is to create something for the comb to grab onto. This can be done by creating a small horizontal braid underneath the crown section of hair. Ensure this is close to the head and then allow the crown section of hair to fall over the braid. This hides it completely and the comb can then be slotted in above the braid.

Simple Wedding Hairstyles Down
Be sure to also research into suitable accessories that could work with a down style. One of my favorites for all the boho babes out there is a flower-crown! If you are considering using combs or pins, remember you are going to need to create something for it to grab onto so a simple twist and pin, a small hidden braid or even just a little teasing at the root would be needed.
Curly Wedding Hair Down
A question I get asked a lot is “Will the curls drop?” My answer is always “Yes”. However there are steps that can be taken to help the curl last.
- The right products! Using the correct products during the styling process is so important, you will be wanting product that promote texture, shine and of course hold. Speak to your stylist about which products suit your hair type and how they would best be applied.
- Hair length and weight! The heavier and longer your hair, the quicker it will drop. Strangely a great way to help is to add more hair! Adding a few rows of clip in extensions can act as a scaffolding for the curls giving them support.
- Let the curl cool in its freshly formed curl! Pin curling is a great way to do this. Once you have applied heat to create the curl, pin it close to the root and move to the next. Repeat throughout the head. Leave to cool! It’s the cooling process that really gives the curl staying power.

Loose Waves Wedding Hair
Creating a wave in your hair down wedding hairstyles is so popular but have you noticed how they can look so different? This is not only a result of how they were styled but also how it is dressed out afterwards. Some options for styling is alternating the direction of the curl, this will give the wave a textured, beachy feel. Curling the hair in the same direction throughout will give a more uniform, hollywood style wave.
Another factor is the tool you are using, a wide tong will create a different wave to a narrow one and then you have heated rollers, wands, air wraps and straighteners! When dressing out after curling you may want to comb through with your fingers to break up the curls or you may want to brush it out for a looser wave. Trying out different techniques and tools to find which gives the wave you want.

Sleek Waves Wedding Hair Down
Most face shapes can also pull this off but in some cases you may want to pull the hair back behind the ears and secure using either products or a couple of grips/bobby pins. If the hair is dropping forward it can elongate your face shape and features which may not complement some.

You can also create braids within sections of the length to mingle with some beachy waves. Even just having a small braid detail will catch the eyes of your wedding guests and can really be the icing on the cake for a beautiful down style.

Brides Often Ask
Can I have my hair down for the wedding?
Yes, you can. Tons of brides would rather wear their hair down and look fabulous. Leaving the hair down can feel more comfortable than wearing a hairstyle that feels heavy, tight, or awkward. Moreover, hair-down styles frame the face and soften the neck and shoulders.
How do you wear a veil with your hair down?
Backcomb the area where your veil will sit to make it matted and thicker, giving the veil combs and loops some extra hold. Then cover the combs with a layer of hair teased from the crown. Another way to wear veils on hair down is by opting for a half-up style or two-section low ponytail. Fix your veil between the sections or just beneath the half up. Make use of Bobby’s pins because they’re your friend.
What are wedding accessories to wear on my hair when it’s down?
Gold leaf hair vines, encrusted hair combs, crystal hair pins, and pearl headbands are some of the most beautiful accessories for hair down. Other ideas include wreath tiara, floral hair pins in place of fresh flowers, garlands, and floral crowns. We also love the idea of fascinators, Juliet caps, chains, headbands, hair clips, and statement barrettes.
Conclusion
Whether you opt for timeless elegance or a more relaxed, carefree vibe, your hair down wedding hairstyles should reflect your unique style and personality. So, take the time to experiment, consult with your stylist, and above all, enjoy the process of discovering the perfect down ‘do that will make your wedding day truly unforgettable.
